Profile pics must have the .JPG file extension. I am working to accept all extensions, but for now - this will fix the issue.
The only issue now is that you MUST upload profile pictures and profile background images from a PC. Uploading from a phone will NOT work.
I have manually fixed all image loading errors and I believe that I have found the issue causing the profile avatar and bg image issues.
We are aware of the issue with attempting to upload profile pics from a mobile device. We are working to fix it. Try uploading from a PC!
